South African politician and leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Julius Malema says Ghana must deal with any traces of the suppression of media freedom.
According to him, the media, which is the fourth estate of the realm is the only institution that shines light on the ills of society and must be protected.
He revealed that it does not matter how badly the media writes about politicians; politicians must protect the right of the media to write.
"Because without that pen, you must know there is an ushering in of dictatorship. If the media is suppressed, if the media cannot write about corruption, if the media takes bribes from the government, you must know those are the dark days of the African continent,” he said.
Mr Malema stressed that social media has also played a crucial role in exposing corruption and the exploitation of Africa's natural resources by mining companies.
He mentioned that Ghana's gold should serve the interests of its people adding that Dr Kwame Nkrumah's vision of African unity and pan-Africanism was a noble one.
"I know Kwame Nkrumah was accused of wanting to be President of Africa, there was nothing wrong with that. The man qualified because he woke us up from the dead. In Africa, we are continuing with the Kwame Nkrumah call. Even if we do not achieve it in our lifetime, we must create a solid foundation for one Africa,” he added.
