The Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Emmanuel Gemegah, has assured the people of Keta, Kedzikope and Abutiakope that the assembly will protect the lives and livelihoods in the communities affected by tidal waves in the Municipality.
The MCE, together with the Municipal Engineer and personnel of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), toured the affected communities on Sunday to ascertain the extent of damage caused by the tidal surge.
This year's waves have affected many households and individuals, mainly displacing many residents and destroying fishing accoutrement, livestock, and other valuables.
Even though the ravages of tidal waves are not new to the Keta coastline, the damage this year has been enormous, disrupting major economic activities, affecting women, children and other vulnerable people in these communities.
Mr Gemegah, in a brief remark, indicated to the affected people that, though there were initial attempts by successive political administrations to bring an end to the perennial challenge, there is still a lot to do.
He further assured the people of his commitment to ensuring all efforts are harnessed to bring safety and comfort to the affected areas.
He emphasised that he will seriously engage NADMO to provide shelter and other forms of support to the affected individuals.
"I must also say, our doors are opened to philanthropists who may be willing to support us in rescuing the affected people," he stated.
