The campaign team of the NPP’s 2008 flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo has rejected calls for an apology from the candidate to the Upper East Regional executives of the New Patriotic party. Some NPP executives in the Upper East Region are demanding the apology from Nana Akufo-Addo for making some comments they deem insulting to the Executives.According to the Regional Executives, the Presidential hopeful, in a meeting, allegedly said that if he decides to appoint even a goat to represent him in the region it is none of their business.Mr Boakye Agyarko, however retorted in an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday June 25 that the call by the party executives for Nana Addo to apologize is misplaced since no offence was committed in the comments made by Nana Addo.Mr Boakye Agyarko added that the Upper East regional organizer and the Secretary openly rejected the appointment of a regional coordinator to represent Nana Addo’s campaign team during a meeting in the region.According to Boakye Agyarko it was ridiculous for a regional executive to determine who the representative of presidential aspirant should be. He said the action by the executive prompted Nana Addo to react to their position.“When he met the regional executives, Nana Addo customarily told them the purpose of his visit and to thank them for allowing him in the region and also to ask for their cooperation."Then the regional secretary gets up to complain about Nana Addo trying to create confusion in the region by having many coordinators in the region which is completely false.”“So Nana Addo reacted by saying that he doesn’t deem it proper for regional executives to determine for any aspirant who his coordinator should be and said even If I had appointed a goat to represent me in this region it was not the place for regional executives to say we accept or reject”.Mr Agyarko added that the context in which the statement was made by Nana Addo did not make it offensive.“In any case there is no offence because Nana Addo bluntly stated his mind on the erroneous impression that the regional executive sought to make. There is no offence so there is no apology.”Meanwhile, Yaw Mort the Upper East Regional Organizer of the NPP who demanded the apology from Nana Addo, said the Regional Executives do not have any qualms with the presidential hopeful but were only offended by his comments.Source: Citifmonline
