The Minority in Parliament has announced its full endorsement of the upcoming ‘Hands off Our Hotel’ demonstration scheduled to come off today, Tuesday, June 18.
This protest is set to begin at the Labadi Beach Hotel and proceed to the seat of government, Jubilee House, where demonstrators intend to present their demands directly to the presidency.
The demonstration is being organised in response to the imminent sale of 60% shares in several prominent hotels owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to Rock City Hotel.

The properties involved include Labadi Beach Hotel, LA Palm Royal Beach Resort, Ride Royal Hotel, and Elmina Beach Resort. SSNIT has progressed significantly in finalizing this transaction.
In a statement signed by Chief Whip Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minority has urged the public to join in the protest to prevent the sale of these SSNIT-owned hotels.
The Minority contends that the decision to divest these assets is fundamentally misguided and goes against the interests of the Ghanaian public.
The sale of these hotels has sparked considerable controversy and opposition, with concerns raised about potential implications for national heritage and the welfare of workers employed in these establishments.
The protest aims to draw attention to these concerns and pressure the government to reconsider its stance on the sale.
“We, therefore, want to use this opportunity to indicate the Minority’s strong opposition to the sale of these hotels to the Minister of Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, and urge the public to join Tuesday’s “Hands Off Our Hotels Demonstration” to send a strong signal to the government that the people of Ghana take exception to this shady deal. Enough is enough!"
“The attempt to sell off profitable state-owned hotels to Hon. Bryan Acheampong is wrong, unacceptable, and must not be condoned.”
