Mobile network provider, Tigo Ghana has shown strong growth in its data subscriber base, as it continues to drive network investment to improve and expand on quality and coverage.
According to the latest National Communications Authority (NCA) data report for August 2014, Tigo recorded an increase of 56,248 to end the month with a figure of 2,097,558.
Although the company has been investing heavily in building a quality and resilient network to boost local business and ensure customers get value for money, it continues to record significant fibre cuts particularly in the Ashanti and Western regions where there are several illegal mining activities.
In an interview with myjoyonline, the CEO of Tigo Ghana, Roshi Motman, admitted although it lost on voice, several measures are being put in place to ensure customer retention and satisfaction especially targeting the areas most affected by rampant fibre cuts.
“On the average we record about 51 cable cuts every month between the Ashanti and Western regions and this is mainly due to the operations of illegal mine workers and on-going road expansion projects in both regions.
“Apart from spending millions annually to replace these cables, the impact on customer and user experience is damaging to say the least,” she emphasized.
In the third quarter of this year, Tigo completed Mobile Broadband coverage to over 170 districts across the country, and in 2013 it invested over US$10 million to improve network coverage in about 750 new communities across the country.
