Parliament is expected to address the 'Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2022' before going on recess, according to Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Majority Leader.
Speaking at a Leaders’ Media Briefing in Parliament on Tuesday, November 7, the Suame MP emphasised the importance of dealing with the LGBTQ+ Bill and assured that the House would find space for its consideration.
"If we are not able to deal with it this meeting, we have to deal with it in the early part of the next succeeding meeting, which will be the First Meeting of the Fourth Session," stated Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
He mentioned that over 90 bills are anticipated to be addressed by the House before the recess, including the Appropriation Bill, Affirmative Action Bill, a bill regulating vaccine production, and one overseeing the activities of the University of Local Governance and Development.
The 2024 Budget Statement is scheduled for presentation on November 15, 2023.
The 'Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2022' aims to regulate LGBTQ+ activities and promote traditional Ghanaian family values.
The bill, which has been adopted by the House, is currently at the consideration stage and will undergo the third reading before becoming law.
Introduced by a bipartisan group led by Samuel Nartey George, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Ningo-Prampram, the bill has received support from various Members of Parliament who argue that it addresses public health concerns associated with LGBTQ+ activities.
