The next NPP government, according to the party's flagbearer, Nana Akuffo Addo will enact legislation to preserve and protect Ghana's cultural assets against illicit exploitation by foreign interests. He says, as Ghana is a signatory to the World Heritage Convention which gives protection to cultural heritage assets his government, when voted into power, shall seek protection to limit the current exploitation of the country's assets. Nana Addo said, an NPP government under his leadership will empower the Museums and Monuments Board to properly carry out the mandate for which it was established. He was speaking at a lecture under the theme "Transform Ghana, Transform our Arts and Culture", at the Kumasi Cultural Centre. The NPP Presidential said identifying and labelling cultural assets is only one step in making the country's culture more visible and that, it is important for purposely built modern museums to exist to showcase these works. He said an Akuffo-Addo government will ensure that the traditional authorities, National Commission on Culture and the Ghana Tourist Board receive maximum publicity in international cultural and tourist media to attract visitors to their events . He also spoke on his vision to encourage young people to take ownership of Ghana's cultural heritage.
