Two people have been reported dead in new cases of cholera outbreak in the Western Region.
The dead included a six year old, Deputy Western Regional Director of Health Services Dr. Kweku Karikari confirmed to Joy News, adding, fifty other cases have been detected with the patients receiving treatment.
Dr Karikari said the cholera outbreak started in June this year in the Ahanta West District and has been sporadic, ever since.
“In the very first case, a six year old died,” he said. According to him the outbreak was triggered by a wedding party in the region. He could not however tell what caused the recent outbreak.
Western Region correspondent Kweku Owusu Peprah attributed the outbreak to the filth that had engulfed the residents in the region.
According to him, the landfill site in the Metropolis is choked with filth following the failure by the Assembly to plough back the filth with a bulldozer.
Dr. Karikari is hoping for early detection in order to reduce fatality. He said his outfit is also committed to breaking the transmission line of the epidemic.
He charged residents to take precautionary measures and maintain a healthy personal hygiene.
