The Ghana Federation of Labour is seeking collaboration with various trade unions to protect the interest of workers.
The federation believes this interim measure will open platforms for frank discussions that will be mutually beneficial.
The move follows a series of explosions at the Tema-based Western Steel Company which claimed one life and injured several others.
Secretary General of the federation, Abraham Koomson, told Joy News they have officially written to the Employment Minister about their proposal and copied the Labour Commission, Trades Union Congress and Ghana Employers Association.
“It has been that the factory inspectors do not relate well with us. Sometimes they think that we have no authority to ask them to do this or that. In the absence of adequate funding for the department, we the union should be seen to be helping the department,” he said.
Mr Koomson however dispels suggestions that the union is not doing enough to ensure sanity at the workplace.
