Majority Chief Whip of Parliament, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has commended Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for being very bold in his assertions while addressing the nation on February 8.
This follows Dr Bawumia's assertion that he has learned lessons from the seven years of the Akufo-Addo government and has reviewed his visions for the country.
For this reason, he appealed to Ghanaians to vote him as the next president to implement policies that will grow the country.
“As Vice-President, I am like a driver’s mate. But if, by the Grace of God, you make me President, I will be in the driver's seat with constitutionally mandated authority to pursue my vision and my priorities.”
According to Mr Annoh-Dompreh, the Vice President’s decision to address controversial matters without mincing words speaks volumes, adding that when Dr Bawumia is given the political mandate, he can turn the country’s economic fortunes around.
Speaking to JoyNews on February 8, he said Dr. Bawumia confirmed his confidence in him that given the mandate, "he will be able to lead our country to where we are desirous of seeing it. So for me it is what is important,” he said.
“He explained that he is a mate on the trotro driven by a competent driver. Given the mandate, he himself will do something different. For me it is significant. Many people will not be able to do that.
“To look into your boss's face and tell him that I am going to be different. I will do this differently, that is a mark of boldness.”
But some NDC Members of Parliament say they are not impressed with Vice President Dr Bawumia's attempt to extricate himself from the current difficulties the country is facing.
