The Managing Editor of the Al Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature, has cautioned the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to delude themselves that they can perpetuate violence in their bid to win power in 2012.
According to Alhaji Bature, when it comes to militancy, no party comes close to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), hence the NPP must rescind their decision to carry out violence in order to avert any uncertainties ahead of next year’s elections.
His comment was in reaction to the infamous ‘all die be die’ and the recent ‘at all cost’ statements attributed to the flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in relation to the upcoming elections in 2012.
The NPP flag bearer who said the stakes of power in the country has been heightened with the oil find stressed he would turn the country into a first class nation when voted as president.
But Alhaji Bature on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday feared that Nana Akufo-Addo’s utterances could infuriate the 'militants' in the NDC to also rebel.
He said the NDC, born out of a revolution, has the capacity to match the NPP boot for boot if they intend to use violence as a means to unseat the Mills-led administration in 2012.
Alhaji Bature cited the tactics employed by the NDC when in opposition in 2008 to ensure the Electoral Commission (EC) declared the election results when the Kufuor-led government wanted to use fair or foul means to retain power as a clear example of what the ruling party is capable of.
“In 2008, when the NPP was in power with all the state machinery, the NDC defeated them” he said.
The Al Hajj editor however urged the NPP to 'thank their stars' since the NDC, led by a God fearing and modest man like President John Evans Atta Mills, does not endorse hooliganism.
He added that in spite of President Mills’ position, the 'militants' in the party would not hesitate to retaliate if Nana Akufo-Addo continuous with his ‘all die-be die' mantra.
Alhaji Bature advised the NPP leader not to see the 2012 elections as a do or die affair.
