Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Kwaku Afriyie is encouraging scientists to showcase their works to affirm their relevance to society.

He observes many scientists shy away from making their works available to the general public.

“I hope that CSIR headquarters will help you play a key role when they take their turn to announce your presence to the public and even other institutions by showcasing the various programmes and applications of the STI in your faculties,” he said.

“If you do not say that you are, nobody will say you are. It would be best if you project yourself. When you do something, let society know,” he urged.

Dr Afriyie was speaking at the second congregation of the CSIR College of Science and Technology in Kumasi.

He again encouraged the management of the college to seek emerging funding opportunities.

“I will also suggest that we do not put all our hope in government funding but take advantage of the new many funding arrangements such as the Public-Private Partnership.

"The Ghana Cares programme and other such facilities seek more private funding. So where the minister has to guarantee or support you, please do not hesitate to come over,” he asked.

In all, 29 graduates were awarded Masters of Science and Philosophy degrees in Climate change and Integrated Natural Resources Management, Plant Breeding and Biotechnology and Soil Health and Environmental Resources Management.

Others are Food Science and Technology, Aquaculture and Industrial Animal Nutrition and Food Production.

President of the College, Prof Mark Appiah, added the graduands have been equipped with the necessary entrepreneurial skills and attitudes to enhance their contribution towards national development.

He announced new programmes in Sustainable Food Crop production, Transportation, Planning and Engineering, Construction in Engineering and Energy Management.

He revealed the college has received approval to roll out PhD programmes in Climate change and Integrated Natural Resources Management, Plant Breeding and Biotechnology, Soil Health and Environmental Resources Management and Food Science and Technology.
