Director of Operations for the Nana Akufo-Addo campaign has stressed that the NPP is un-perturbed by the possible endorsement of President John Mahama as the flagbearer of the NDC, stating there is no difference between the late President Mills and John Mahama. There are strong indications that the NDC will endorse the President as its flagbearer for the 2012 general elections after the death of President John Evans Atta Mills, who was the party’s flagbearer. Speaking on Election Headquarters on Joy FM Friday with regard to the change in baton, Lord Commey argued that will not make any significant difference because the President, who was then Vice President, was chairman of the economic management team of the government. “As a party and as a campaign we believe that nothing has changed,” he said explaining, President John Mahama, "was the chairman or the leader of government’s economic management team.” He added that, “if anything at all what late Professor Atta Mills was doing was as a result of the advice and the programmes set by the chairman of the economy which in this case is President John Mahama.” Lord Commey said due to the economic flaws of the NDC, "an Akufo-Addo government will be looking at “building an economy that could stand the tests of providing jobs for its people". The NPP flagbearer is currently on a tour of the Greater Accra region, visiting several areas in the region. On Thursday, he visited the Malam-Atta market and Tip-toe lane, Circle where he promised that he will introduce a Zongo Development Fund to cater for the needs of the poor. Lord Commey said responses from Nana Addo’s Restore Hope tour, have been very huge and it is a clear indication that, “the good people of this country are determined to get Nana Akufo-Addo elected as the next President of the Republic of Ghana.” Touching on the party’s chances in the region where in 2004, it won 17 parliamentary seats with the NDC winning 10, and in 2008, the NDC winning 18, and the NPP 9, the Director of Operations said "the campaign is aware of it and is factoring it into its campaign". Election watcher, Ben Ephson noted that even though the Greater Accra, which has been described as a swing region, is the second most populace region after Ashanti region, but has more voters than the Ashanti . He added that “the NPP lost almost 200,000 votes in Greater Accra and they lost about six or seven seats in” the region. According to him, the region must be taken seriously considering the fact that it will have seven more seats from the 45 new constituencies to be created. He predicted that the Greater Accra, Central and Western regions would be major battlegrounds for the December elections.
