Wife of one of the police officers shot and killed by a police patrol team at Winneba in the Central Region is crying for justice almost two years after the sad incident occurred.
Joy News’ Francis Abban spoke to the wife of Emmanuel Tetteh who says she is unable to cater for their son after a promise by the police administration failed to materialise.
Patience Tetteh said she has been forced to move from Winneba to Accra and transfer her son from the school he was in to the village because she is unable to pay for his tuition.
She said her heart bleeds anytime she sees that the police officers who killed her husband are still at post and working as though nothing had happened.
She is pleading with the Inspector General of Police to strip the police officers off their uniforms – until then the justice she and her late husband deserve has not been served.
Lance Corporals Francis Appiah and Emmanuel Tetteh were gunned down by the Winneba police patrol team at Gomoa Pomadze as the team mistook them for armed robbers.
The officers in a saloon car were speeding from the Pan African University College after being shot by armed robbers.
The armed robbers had stormed the university’s hostel, robbed students and inflicted machete wounds on one of them.
The police officers in plain clothing who lived close to the university’s hostel tried to fight the armed robbers but in the process Francis Appiah got injured.
Emmanuel Tetteh in an attempt to seek medical help for his colleague rushed to his car and sped off to the nearest hospital.
On their way they met the police patrol team who was responding to a distress call and mistook the men for the armed robbers.
They were pursued until Emmanuel lost control of the vehicle and ran into the wall of a nearby house, resulting in both their deaths.
For now, the police have declined to comment on the matter.
