A circuit court in Cape Coast, on Wednesday imposed a fine of GH¢100 on Akua Akyire, a 32-year-old woman, for assaulting a co-tenant who accused her of stealing her kitchen knife.
Akyire, who pleaded not guilty, was also ordered to pay GH¢100 as compensation to the co-tenant, Madam Akua Dankwa or in default serve two months in prison.
Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu, that on February 12, 2008 at about 1600 hours, Madam Dankwa, who resided at Amanfu, a suburb of Cape Coast, returned from work and realised that her kitchen knife was missing.
Prosecution said Madam Dankwa asked Akyire about the knife resulting in a quarrel and the complainant was assaulted, receiving bruises on her face.
Chief Inspector Amonoo said other tenants rescued Madam Dankwa and sent her to the Cape Coast District Hospital, where she was treated and discharged.
Akyire told the court that she assaulted Madam Dankwa because she insulted and accused her of stealing the knife.Source: GNA
