Some concerned women of Ghana formally petitioned parliament after a demonstrationon to call Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) to order for the derogatory comments he made against the Electoral Commissioner.
The women are unhappy with the misogynistic comments made by Kennedy Agyapong that Charlotte Osei got her job by offering sexual favours to some power brokers.
They presented their petition to a delegation headed by the leader of the Women’s Caucus in Parliament and Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Hajia Mary Salifu Boforo.
Hajia Boforo promised the matter will be looked into quickly adding, "On behalf of the Speaker, I am here to receive the petition and what you are expecting from the Speaker he will accordingly do that."
The coalition comprised women associations from across the capital – traders, market women, artisans as well as young women and media lecturers. They cut across different age categories and background in their march of solidarity with Madam Charlotte Osei.
Starting at the, the Accra Sports Stadium, they marched through some principal streets and demanded a formal apology from the MP and for parliament to sanction him.
Secretary of the coalition, Hajia Halima told Joy News they expect Parliament to quickly act just like they did when Blakk Rasta and others made some prounouncement against Members of Parliament (MPs). They were immediately hauled before the Priveleges Committee, she reminded the speaker.
"Where we are now, enough is enough, we are saying that parliament should call Kennedy Agyapong to order," Hajia Halima said.
