Public and civil servants in Ho have appealed to the new government to move quickly to implement the single spine salary scheme developed by the Kufuor administration.
They told the GNA that they had waited long for better living wages and expressed the hope that the new government would meet their expectations.
The former government had set January to implement the new salary scheme.
The workers, from various departments and agencies and speaking on condition of anonymity, said it was their expectation that the new government would not stall the implementation of the new salary scheme by trying to introduce its own or resort to “selective treatment” for certain categories of workers.
They said it was their wish that the government would continue with the Public Sector Reforms initiated by its predecessor aimed at modernizing the working environment.
The workers also reminded the government about the need to work on the three tier pension scheme.
Capt Henry Quarshie (Retd), a security man, appealed to the government to ensure greater state intervention in the productive sectors of the economy in order to create jobs and improve productivity.
He said the government should “de-politicize” existing state sponsored credit facilities so as to make funds available to small and medium scale entrepreneurs at low interest rates.
