Mr Roger Mettle-Nunoo, a Deputy Minister of Health, on Wednesday called for the setting up of a rapid response team, a new hospital and provision of facilities to tackle health problems in the Western Region because of the oil find in the area.
He also said that the locality needed a new regional hospital to adequately meet the health needs of the people.
Mr Mettle-Nunoo was speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, at Sekondi as part of his two-day tour of the region.
He suggested to Members of Parliament (MPs) to spend part of their Common Fund on health related projects in their constituencies.
Mr Mettle-Nunoo said some health projects in the region were about 90 per cent completed and his Ministry would assist to complete them.
He asked nursing training schools to establish Out-Patient Departments to enable students undertake practical training to generate funds for their institutions.
Mr Mettle-Nunoo said plans were far advanced for the initiation of top up training programmes for health personnel.
He said government was considering providing ambulances in the rural areas to convey pregnant women to health facilities to be delivered in emergency cases.
Mr Aidoo called for the upgrading of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital should be upgraded apart from any consideration to build a new regional hospital.
