A deputy minister for Information, Baba Jamal has thrown his weight behind the National Youth Working Committee (NYWC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that Daily Graphic must substantiate its Tuesday, May 31, 2011, edition which reported that 8,000 homosexuals have been registered in the Central and Western Regions of Ghana. The National Youth Working Committee (NYWC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has petitioned the National Media Commission to dismiss the Editor of the Daily Graphic newspaper, Mr. Ransford Tetteh for what they described as the publication of falsehood about the alleged registration of some 8,000 gays in Ghana. According to Baba Jamal, Daily Graphic being Ghana’s largest news paper gives credence to the story it carried which also affects the nation’s reputation hence the essence of the call. h The deputy minister said this on Asempa FM’s current affairs programme Ekosii-Sen on Wednesday. Baba Jamal stressed that if it is true 8,000 youth have been registered by an NGO, people must know who those organizations are, and the people involved so that steps could be taken to deal with them. He commended the NDC Youth for bringing the issue up because people cannot ride on the back of democracy to peddle falsehood. He added that as a Deputy Minister, he fully supports the youth working group of the NDC that Graphic should be made to produce evidence to the story. Story by Twum Barimah/Benson Afful/Asempa News
