The Association of Young Insurance Professionals (YIPS) Ghana, under the auspices of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG), has honoured five exceptional tertiary students for their insightful submissions in the Second Edition of the Tertiary Essay Competition.
This recognition forms part of the Tertiary Achiever Awards Initiative, which aims to nurture young talents, promote insurance literacy, and inspire the next generation of insurance professionals in Ghana.
The awards were presented during the prestigious CIIG Excellence Awards Night, a platform dedicated to spotlighting emerging talent in Ghana’s insurance sector which took place on the 30th of August 2025, at the prestigious Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, Accra. ,
This year’s competition focused on the theme: “In the light of the global emphasis on ESG principles, critically examine how ESG integration can drive the growth and expansion of inclusive insurance in Ghana and across Africa.”
Students were challenged to explore how Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles can be leveraged to promote inclusive insurance across the continent. The submissions were well-researched, innovative, and demonstrated a strong grasp of industry dynamics—reflecting the growing interest among youth in sustainable finance and insurance innovation.
Out of over 40 entries received from tertiary institutions nationwide, five students emerged as top performers. After a rigorous selection process, the finalists were honoured as follows:
4th Runner-Up: Lawrencia Lamptey – University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Award: Certificate and National Service/Internship placement with StarLife Assurance
3rd Runner-Up: Audrey Awuradwoa Afriyie Opoku-Kani – Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Award: Certificate and National Service/Internship placement with StarLife Assurance
2nd Runner-Up: Kentera Abongo Justice Junior – Accra College of Education Award: Certificate, cash prize of GHC 700.00, and National Service/Internship with Hollard Life
1st Runner-Up: Annie-Zierra Anniwaa Korang Oduro Award: Certificate and National Service/Internship placement with Enterprise Life / Enterprise Insurance
Ultimate Winner: Sowah Wendylove Naa Anyorkor Award: Plaque, cash prize of GHC 1,500.00, and National Service/Internship with the National Insurance Commission (NIC)
Speaking at the event, Lawrence Daniels, Country Director of YIPS Ghana, emphasised: “Our mandate is to bridge the gap between academia and industry. By honoring these brilliant students, we are not just celebrating their achievements but also investing in the future of Ghana’s insurance profession.”
This recognition further cements YIPS Ghana’s leadership in empowering the next generation of insurance professionals and projecting Ghana on the continental stage.
