The Youth Bridge Foundation’s documentary “The Nexus between Climate Induced-Migration, Peace and Security’ has been adjudged “The Best Documentary For 2024” at this year’s Ghana Movie Awards (GMA) held over the weekend.

The 12^th edition of the awards was held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday 18^th January 2025.

“The Nexus between Climate Induced-Migration, Peace and Security’ documentary was produced by JSE Productions for Youth Bridge with funding from the Embassy of Denmark in Ghana and WANEP.  The 12 minutes film has been broadcast on the JoyNews channel several times as well as on its weekly Climate Focus Series on Wednesdays.

“The Nexus between Climate-Induced Migration, Peace and Security’, highlights the impact of climate change on the lives of the average Ghanaian, focusing on marginalized communities such as the Fulbe and Fulani tribes who are left desolate as a result of climate change factors and are left with the options of migrating to seek greener pastures. The documentary also focuses on the themes of security and sustainability concerns, offering a comprehensive view of the societal shifts caused by the harsh climate factors."

Farmers and herdsmen in the sub-region, chiefs from the Fulani and Fulbe tribe, researchers and the Northern Regional Minister Sani Alhassan Saibu are heavily featured the climate change documentary. Their narrations and point of views add depth and originality to the documentary, compelling audiences to develop a deeper understanding of the issues of water crises and drought also presented in the documentary.

The Ghana Movie Awards, established to celebrate excellence in the Ghanaian film industry, recognized the “The Nexus between Climate-Induced Migration, Peace and Security’ for its massive contribution in reporting climate change factors inhibiting development in the sub-region of Ghana.

The award doesn’t only recognize the creative effort of the Youth Bridge Foundation but also emphasizes the power of their documentary as a vehicle for climate advocacy. The Foundation’s “MindChess”, another film focused on Mental Health Awareness was also nominated for the GMA.
