The youth have been urged to use their strengths and ideas to champion incident free elections as the country goes to the polls in December. They have also been challenged to resist any attempt by anyone who tries to induce them to indulge violent acts during the elections. The President of the Okaikoi Youth Foundation, Mr Rester Dogboe, said this at the second general meeting of the foundation to bring together the youth and encourage them to take up leadership roles in support of their community. The meeting brought together the youth and members of the Okaikoi community as well as aspiring Members of Parliament of the various political parties. He said the youth of today were confronted with many challenges such as unemployment and lack of opportunities to pursue education to the highest level. "This phenomenon has retarded the personal development of the youth and has contributed to the retardation of our own developmental agenda," he explained. Additionally, the youth were endowed with numerous talents and hence the need to help develop these talents so as to reduce unemployment, poverty and deviancy. However, the foundation shall serve as a pivot upon which the youth would have the confidence in themselves to become what they want to be in life. Mr Dogboe also advised that issues concerning the youth should not be politicised but rather be left to the youth to make their own decisions. In a further development, a peace treaty was signed by all political aspirants present to maintain peace and order before, during and after the elections in December.
