Following the National Communications Authority (NCA) directive to telecommunications companies to register all active Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards, Zain Ghana has in adherence, deployed over 5,600 registration outlets across the country in an exercise that saw all staff including senior management volunteering their services to aid the process.
Apart from facilitating the process for their customers by creating registration outlets vistually at their doorstep, Zain has also created gainful employment for many of our unemployed youth. Mr. Luck Ochieng, Sales Director of Zain Ghana said “We had to ensure that the SIM registration exercise for our old and new customers remained as seamless and as convenient as possible. By creating as many registration outlets as we can, customers can comply with the government directives and continue to enjoy our network without having to go too far.
“Through the deployment of over 5,000 registration points across the country by Zain, we have successfully eliminated long queues and the attendant discomforts commonly associated with this kind of exercise as a way of ensuring that the process does not in any way disrupt our customers routine of staying in touch with their business partners, families, friends and loved ones. It’s against this backdrop that we have decided to go wide with the creation of the outlets, making sure the agents, both the stationed ones and the freelancers are all over to meet and even exceed the demands and expectation of our valued customers.”
We are still in the process of adding up to the numbers and providing more opportunities for the people to earn a living as we make conscious effort to make the ongoing exercise stress-free for our customers.
Commenting on what he described as a rewarding exercise, Isaac Amar, school leaver turned registration agent stationed at Rock Anchor, Teshie said “Zain has given me a lucrative employment opportunity; which I intend to make the most of – the more people I register, the more money I will make. I am also glad to be involved in executing a government directive. ”.
An employee of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) at Mr. Stephen Kumordzi confessed that but for the registration point set up beside his office, it would have been a great challenge for him to register his SIM card due to his tight schedule; a point equally shared by Ms. Benedicta Kwakye, of Ashfoam, Kumasi.
The SIM registration exercise is ongoing and Zain customers, are encouraged to take advantage of the numerous registration centres to get their SIMs on the data base.
