ZEN Petroleum has reiterated its commitment to strengthening its retail operations in Ghana after honouring outstanding staff and dealers at the 2026 Retail Excellence Awards in Accra.

Speaking to Joy Business on the sidelines of the event, Founder of ZEN Petroleum, William Tewiah, said the gathering was primarily to recognise and reward hardworking staff.

“Today’s awards are to recognise all the staff that we have, especially our frontline staff who are working round the clock serving our customers through thick and thin. We have been operating for quite a number of years now, and we thought it was right to finally recognise them for what they do and award them for their hard work,” he said.

According to him, celebrating employees and retail partners is critical to sustaining high operational standards within the company’s expanding network.

Mr. Tewiah noted that Ghana’s retail petroleum space is becoming increasingly competitive and crowded, requiring oil marketing companies to sharpen their focus on efficiency, service quality, and strong dealer relationships to remain relevant.

“You could say it’s overcrowded because for the size of the market, which is about seven and a half billion litres a year, we have over 200 OMCs. You could argue that is quite a lot of OMCs for that size of market. So we think it’s very competitive. We think it’s a little bit overcrowded and maybe that’s something that needs to be looked at,” he stated.

Despite the mounting competition, he indicated that the company’s immediate priority remains the Ghanaian market.

He said ZEN Petroleum is currently focused on consolidating its gains locally rather than pursuing expansion into other countries.

“We don’t have any expansion plans currently beyond Ghana because we still feel that we’ve got a long way to go yet,” Mr. Tewiah emphasised.

He further assured customers of an improved and more refined experience in the days ahead as the company deepens investment in its retail systems and customer service delivery.

“We seek to differentiate ourselves by being fair to our customers and being honest. Integrity is at the heart of everything we do. In terms of the quantity of fuel that we serve to our customers, we always make sure that it is verified. Our customers want good prices — they are very sensitive to fuel prices, understandably — but more importantly, we ensure they receive the right quantity as well,” he added.

ZEN Petroleum believes sustained investment in its people and retail network will be key to maintaining its position in Ghana’s evolving downstream petroleum sector.
