The Atwima-Nwabiagya District Assembly has contracted Zoomlion Ghana Limited for the management and collection of waste in the District.
Under the arrangement known as "The sanitation improvement package", the company will be responsible for waste collection and evacuation to final disposal sites.
Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, District Chief Executive announced this during a mass refuse evacuation exercise at Atwima-Koforidua at the weekend.
He said the Assembly had selected some towns in the District for the mass evacuation exercise, while containers would also be provided to other small communities for the exercise.
Mr Stephen Gyekye-Darko, Ashanti Regional Operations Supervisor of the company said as its social responsibility, the company did not work in isolation, but collaborated with district assemblies to ensure sanitation and refuse heap evacuation.
He announced that Zoomlion was working in partnership with the Department of Parks and Gardens to beautify the city of Kumasi in readiness for the CAN 2008 tournament and appealed to restaurant and hotel operators to call on the company for any possible assistance in the provision of certain basic services for tourist attraction.Source: GNA
