Trade and Industry minister Alan Kyerematen has revealed 192 business plans have been approved for take-off in the government's industrialization policy to establish one factory in every district.
The approved business plans represent 41% of 462 proposals submitted to the government after it reached out publicly to private investors.
A satisfied Trade and Industry Minister said private sector interest in the industrialization plan has been "very significant", stating the "1D,1F, is very much on track"
He said the commercially viable plans will cover 102 out of the 216 districts in the country.
The government has shown a preference to sit back and allow private businesses to lead in wealth and job creation while it provides support.
But he said the government would not shy away from taking the lead in establishing projects in districts where no private player has submitted a commercially viable plan.
In that case, the government will invest and incubate a project and then hand it over to a private investor.
But essentially, the one district, one factory initiative is not designed to be state enterprises, Alan Kyerematen who was also Trade Minister under the former NPP government said.
About 15 years ago, he was in charge of the John Agyekum Kufour-led NPP government's Presidential Special Initiatives, a plan to shift focus from Ghana's cash cow, cocoa.
