The President's nominee for the Ministry of Youth and Sports Clement Humado, yesterday appeared before the Parliamentary Appointment's Committee with the promise to work with stakeholders to get Ghana back to the International Olympics Committee (IOC).
The country is currently facing a ban by the World Olympics Committee over a wrangling in the Ghana Olympics Committee.
Mr Humado explained that he would consult with stakeholders to see the possibility of amending the Legislative Instrument that offended the I.O.C. Charter in terms of democratic elections to the Office of Local Olympics Committee.
The Member of Parliament for Anlo, who came under a barrage of questions from the Appointment Committee for approval as the fourth Minister of Youth and Sports under President Mills administration, told the committee that he would not interfere but allow the Ghana Football Association to sort out its differences with Economic Organised Crime Office.
The nominee, whose appearance drew large number of supporters with singing and drumming in his honour at the forecourt of Parliament said, transparency and accountability were the hallmarks underpinning the operations of public institutions all over and that, "GFA should be able to account for the use of public fund".
The 58-year-old trained Project Management Specialist and agriculturalist said he would bring his long period of experience in management to bear on the ministry to realise the vision of the President.
He said judging from his background, he was confident that when given the nod he would work to meet the aspirations of the President to complete the tenure of office left.
The nominee who inadvertently had the name of Sierra Leone mispelt on his Curriculum Vitae had a caution from Hackman Owusu-Agyeman (MP-New Juabeng North) remarking that "if you do not open your eyes, you know what happens there!"
Mr Humado said when given the nod he would use his experience to consult with development partners to get resources to fast track employment programmes under the National Youth Employment Programme.
He explained that, he would emphasize more on entrepreneurial skills for the youth to empower them to be self employed.
On the issue of coaches for the national team, Mr Humado observed that football was the heart of the nation and that demanded the best of coaching, explaining that whoever, whether a foreign or local coach that fleet the criteria must be offered the job.
He, however, expressed the need for the local coaches to have a shot it the national team provided they meet the selection criteria.
On the issue of declining patronages of local leagues, the nominee said he would work with the National Sports Council, and the Ghana Football Association and stakeholders to find solutions to address the problem.
Mr Humado said he would help to work out programmes to back government proposals to ensure that sports facilities were provided in all districts and regions to allow for "mass sports" to top potentials for the country.
When he took his turn the Deputy Minister of the Interior, now the nominee for the Eastern Region, Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, answered a barrage of question regarding the Eastern Region becoming a notorious for violence during Sections and galamsey activities.
The 62-year-old politician gynecologist, described the violence at Atiwa and Akwatia during the elections as unfortunate.
He said he would not countenance any act of violence and that he would work with all stakeholders to ensure that such violence did not occcur.
Dr. Apea-Kubi rejected claims that the violence were authorised by officialdom but said discipline had broken down, given way for things to have a field day.
Dr Apea-Kubi said given his experience at the Ministry of the Interior, he hoped to work towards ensuring peace to facilitate the development of the region.
The gynaecologist with 35 years of working experience, blamed some chiefs for not helping enough to stop illegal mining activities that had polluted the Birim River, a main source of drinking water for the people.
The nominee said having practiced for 35 years, he had decided to get to corridors of politics to influence the passage of regulatory frameworks to promote Assisted Conception, in the country - an area of his specialization.
Dr Apea-Kubi said he would work towards enhancing agricultural productivity at the Afram Plains which is known to be a food basket in the country, the uplifting of educational standards in the area through counseling the promotion of tourism.
The nominee was optimistic that when the rehabilitation of the Eastern rail lines is done, it would open up the area for the mining of large deposit of bauxite.
