Two persons were yesterday arraigned before an Accra circuit court for allegedly possessing 213 pieces of fake Goil fuel coupons valued at GH₵10,650.

They are Jonathan Ofoli Quaye, technician and Samuel Osafo Amponsah, supervisor.

The police have also intensified their search for the third suspect David Osei Amankwah, a businessman currently at large.

The two are said to have on October 10, this year, had in their posses­sion 213 pieces of Goil fuel coupons which were not gen­uine.

Amponsah is facing an additional charge of abet­ting.

The accused persons have both denied the charges preferred against them and have been grant­ed bail in the sum of GH₵12,000 with two sureties to reappear on November 26,2014.

Anmed that the complainant in the case is an accountant at the Spintex Road branch of Goil Oil Services whilst Quaye and Amponsah are a technician and a supervisor respectively at the same place.

She said the manage­ment of the company had been noticing the circula­tion of fake Goil fuel coupons at their various outlets all over the country.

According to prosecu­tor, it was also detected that some of the pump attendants had been assist­ing the perpetrators to dis­tribute the fake coupons exchanging them with part of their daily sales unde­tected.

The police officer said all managers of Goil Serv­ice stations were alerted about the threat that the fraudulent transaction was posing to the company and were asked to put in some security control measures to curb the practice.

Supt. Annor Kwoffie said all staff of the compa­ny, including the pump attendants, were also warned to desist from encouraging the distribution of the fake Goil coupons, adding that in August 2014, Quaye and Amankwah supplied 114 pieces of fake Goil coupons in GH₵50 denominations worth GH₵5,700 to Amponsah and collected cash equivalent.

Supt. Annor Kwoffie stated that Quaye succeed­ed in pushing through the sale of all the fake coupons he took from Amankwah, maintaining that on Octo­ber 10, Quaye and Amankwah again went to supply another 99 pieces of the fake fuel coupons at the cost of GH₵4,950 to Amponsah, but he (Quaye) was arrested after the suspect through a witness in the case.

Prosecution indicated in their statements Quaye claimed he was given the coupons by Amankwah whose where­abouts could not be traced. Supt. Annor Kwoffie added that Amankwah admitted receiving the coupons from Quaye but kept them when he detected that they had been faked.
