He first won the award at the 28th GJA Awards in September 2024.

The recognition celebrates his outstanding work across television, radio, and digital platforms, where he has continued to produce compelling sports stories.
Muftawu, who serves as a presenter and producer with JoyNews and JoySports, has been widely praised for his in-depth storytelling, investigative features, and dedication to promoting integrity and development within sports journalism.
The GJA Awards, organised annually by the Ghana Journalists Association, recognise excellence in journalism across various categories, celebrating reporters, editors, producers, and photographers who have demonstrated distinction and professionalism in their work.
Held under the theme “Safeguarding Ghana’s future: the role of the media in promoting peace, security and the fight against galamsey,” the 29th edition brought together media practitioners, Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, President John Dramani Mahama, other government officials, and industry stakeholders to honour outstanding contributions to journalism in Ghana.
Muftawu’s back-to-back win further solidifies his reputation as one of the most influential figures in Ghana’s contemporary sports media landscape.
