The Ministry of Transport has warned that it will not hesitate to withdraw the licences of companies providing services at the Accra International Airport if they fail to meet contractual obligations.
The caution follows controversy surrounding the withdrawal of the licence of McDan Aviation Handling Services Limited to provide designated services within Terminal 1 of the airport.
Speaking on the matter, the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, stressed that the ministry will enforce strict compliance with service contracts and will not hesitate to sanction defaulting operators.
“When you are given a contract with terms and conditions, business persons will have to obey or go by the contract terms that they have signed,” the minister said.
“The question is, ask yourself, have you renewed your licence for the past four years? Have you paid the relevant taxes or fees that you are supposed to pay to government for the past one and a half years?” quizzing whether the company had fulfilled key obligations under its agreement.
Mr. Nikpe maintained that government reserves the right to terminate contracts when operators fail to comply with their obligations.
On Thursday, March 12, 2026, the Ghana Airport Company issued a notice announcing the revocation of the license of McDan Aviation Handling Services Limited at Terminal 1 of the Accra International Airport for failing to abide by the contractual terms of the contract.
Issues about McDan Aviation defaulting on contract terms broke in 2025; however, management pushed back against the allegation, arguing that the company had made significant investments into the facility and should have been given an adequate opportunity to address any outstanding regulatory or operational concerns.
Meanwhile, the Transport Ministry insists that the enforcement of contractual obligations is necessary to maintain operational standards and efficiency at the country’s main international gateway.
