The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has introduced advanced security screening equipment at the Accra International Airport as part of efforts to improve passenger safety and reduce delays during security checks.

The new equipment includes a 3D-CT scanner, shoe analysers, body scanners and other modern security devices designed to enhance the efficiency of the airport’s screening processes.

According to GACL, the technology will allow security personnel to conduct faster and more effective inspections while improving the overall passenger experience.

The introduction of the equipment follows the government’s commitment to modernising Ghana’s aviation infrastructure and strengthening security systems at the country’s airports.

President John Dramani Mahama announced the procurement of the scanners during the launch of the E-Visa System last year, as part of measures to improve travel convenience and position Ghana as a leading aviation hub in the region.

The 3D-CT scanning technology is expected to reduce the need for passengers to remove certain items from their luggage during screening, helping to shorten processing times and ease congestion at security points.

GACL said the deployment of the equipment forms part of broader measures to adopt technology-driven solutions across Ghana’s aviation sector while maintaining international safety and security standards.

The upgrade comes amid increasing efforts by airports worldwide to balance stringent security requirements with faster and more convenient passenger movement.

The company is expected to continue rolling out improvements aimed at enhancing facilities and services at Ghana’s airports.
