NanaYaw Wiredu, a creative entrepreneur and team lead at OnePlay Africa, has outlined some hiccups he observed at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards which was held on May 10, 2025 at the Grand Arena.
In a radio discussion on Joy FM's Showbiz A-Z, NanaYaw said the event would have had a better flow if the organisers had paid more attention to a hybrid production (TV and live audience).
"They could have done everything they wanted to do if they were producing the event two-way; a hybrid. So the event was produced for television. It wasn't produced for us at the event," he noted.
He further stated that with his experience with working for an international award scheme, "whenever we are taking coverage, there is a delay so we can fix the bugs, so that when there is an issue we can fix before we go in air. But they were picking live. If you look at the production that they did, the scripting and everything was done for television, it wasn't for those of us who were at the event. So they were using the performances to hold those of us who were at the event."
He explained the live performances were produced for patrons to have fun because there was nothing happening in the auditorium for them.
"Naa Ashorkor wasn't talking to us. She was talking to TV. At a point if you were listening to them keenly, you could hear the directions coming in. It was for television," he told the host Kwame Dadzie.
He however noted that, that would not be a problem if they tailored the performances to suit their model.
"If it's for television then it means that we have to produce all the performances. What I mean by 'produce' is, I know that Stonebwoy is three or four songs fifteen minutes, I know that I don't have a huge backstage and therefore I cannot move all the props before I bring them on stage. So when I setting up my stage I need to create entrances that can contain the props that I bring on stage.
Now, the entrances from the backstage to the stage were very small so props had to be removed ne after the other - and that takes time because it is human work," NanaYaw further indicated.

He also said that the stage could have been broken into three parts, to increase the fluidity of the show.
"There were two external stages where the award presenters stand and where Naa Ashorkor goes to stand to talk to television. So they all could have been separated. If they had separated that, we could have had a lot of award presentations taking a flow without breaks," he said.
The 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards gathered thousands of music lovers, musicians, music executives, government officials, corporate executives and and fans of artistes at the Accra International Conference Centre and the Grand Arena on May 10, 2025 for the biggest entertainment night on Ghana's events calendar.
While a lot of people have commended Charterhouse, the organisers for an improved show this year, some including NanaYaw Wiredu believe there is still more room for improvement.
