An angry mob numbering about 700 on Tuesday besieged the Koforidua Police Station seeking the head of a 37-year-old murder suspect. The suspect, whose name was not disclosed by the police, was picked up earlier in the day after he was linked to a series of murders in the town. The mob is said to have defied police assurance that the suspect would be dealt with according to the law, and demanded that he be released to face 'instant justice.' Recent killings in Koforidua have been alarming and residents are said to be living in a state of fear. The suspect, a student of the Koforidua Polytechnic, should go through questioning and processed for court, police authorities say. District Police Commander, Superintendent Paul Kontomah, urged residents to remain calm while investigations continue. Story by Fiifi Koomson/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
