Engage Now Africa and its partners, United Way Ghana presented a "Start-up Pack" to the recently graduated adult learners in Bortianor and Dampaase communities.

This event took place at the Methodist Church in Bortianor on January 28, 2022.

The ceremony was attended by over 200 people, family and friends as well as chiefs’ representatives of both Bortianor and Dampaase communities.

This package is to help empower all 56 adult learners from both communities who graduated from our Adult Literacy and Vocational Skills Training program 3 months ago to start their own businesses so they can become self-reliant in fulfillment of our promise to them. 

The package comprises the purchases of items, tools, and all other needed materials for Baking, Beads Making, Liquid Soap, and Batik, tie and dye Making. This will help and push these learners to quickly begin the production of skills acquired during the vocational training.

Executive Director of United Way Ghana, Mr. Kissiedu encouraged these adult learners to utilize this opportunity well and to commit to their new business so they can make a lot more profit to care for themselves, their children and their family. Miss Faustina Abbey, the Impact Lead of United Way Ghana, expressed how mindful they are of the two communities and urged them to work hard so they can be independent.

In addition, Cecilia Amankwah, the Country Director of Engage Now Africa took the beneficiaries through a financial literacy education on the 6Ps of business (Plan, Product, Paperwork, Promotion, Price, Process) as well as budgeting, and savings so they can sustain their businesses.

She was grateful to all donors and partners for making this theme of “Adult Literacy and Financial Empowerment” project a reality. This will go a long way into changing the lives of all beneficiaries and that of their families.

Other dignitaries present were Robert Mills, Project Lead for United Way Ghana, Richmond Adu-Gyamfi, the Adult Literacy Manager of Engage Now Africa, Grace Brimah, Community Lead for United Way Ghana and Hannah Appiah, Vocational Skills Trainer for Engage Now Africa.
