Police officer Bernard Kyei has been shot in the eye by armed robbers at Ejura Aframso in the Ashanti region.
The 34-year-old and his colleagues with the Ejura Divisional Command were responding to a distress call about an armed robbery incident in the area Sunday night.
Joy News’ correspondent Mohammed Nurudeen said, “the armed robbers had blocked the road and were robbing cars, a driver going to Kumasi refused to stop, he was shot in the eye and died on the spot.”

Mr. Nurudeen stated that the police had gone to the scene undercover to investigate a robbery case.
“The police said they drove a private car to the area where the robbery was taking place so their presence will not be noticed immediately by the armed robbers,” he told Bernice Abu-Baidoo on the Joy News Desk show.
Mohammed Nurudeen explained that the armed robbers opened fire on the private car when they saw the driver was officer Kyei.

The police officers exchanged fire with the robbers but Kyei was shot in the eye during the shootout.
Kyei was rushed to the Ejura District Hospital and was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
Mr. Nurudeen said the police officer is scheduled for surgery to remove the bullet in his eye.
