President John Mahama has directed the Attorney General to set up a committee to look into the Auditor General’s report and punish those found guilty of misappropriation of public funds.
The recently published Auditor General’s report revealed some financial misappropriation by some individuals and government agencies.
The Report further recommended that such persons are punished or steps taken to retrieve monies unaccounted for.
Speaking at the 53rd Senior Citizens Luncheon, the guest speaker, Dompiahene of Akwapem Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa I, appealed to the president to take action on the recommendations made in the Auditor General’s report.
President John Mahama in a reaction said it was crucial that steps were taken to deal with persons who engage in such malfeasance.
He subsequently directed the Attorney General to set up a committee to look into the report and take punitive action against the perpetrators.
Addressing the winner-takes-all electoral system, President Mahama said it was imperative that all political parties worked together for the betterment of the country.
He said it is one of the major challenges the country is facing adding, Ghana must start looking at how that can be reversed.
