AirtelTigo has a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the construction of six-unit classroom block for Kotokuom R/C Primary School in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti region.
The Odikro, opinion leaders and people of Kotokuom community, Ghana Education Service officials and school authorities joined the telecommunication company.
A headmaster’s office and furniture for pupils and teachers of the school will also be provided as part of the project.
This is in furtherance of AirtelTigo’s “Yen Nkosuo Nti” (meaning-for our development) initiative aimed at developing educational facilities in public schools in disadvantaged communities in the Ashanti, Bono and Ahafo regions.
Speaking on behalf of the CEO, the Chief Human Resource Officer for AirtelTigo, Eric Adadevoh said, “When we launched this initiative, we said one per cent of our proceeds from airtime recharge by our customers in the three regions will go into development of educational facilities.”
“This project is a demonstration of our commitment to the people and contribution to national development. This would not have been possible without the support of our valued customers. We are grateful to them for making it possible for us to impact lives positively in our communities.
“AirtelTigo remains committed to enriching lives through our social impact programs and our innovative products and services such as our data and voice bundles with no expiry which has now become a gold standard in Ghana’s telecommunications industry,” Mr Adadevoh added.
The Circuit Supervisor of Education, Mr Nimoh Asante who spoke on behalf of the Atwima Mponua District Education Director, was delighted that work had begun on the project.
He, therefore, used the occasion to encourage all to continue to patronize the services of AirtelTigo. “Accessing AirtelTigo services only means contributing to our own development. What we give to AirtelTigo comes back to us.
“Today we are all witnesses to how this school project by AirtelTigo is going to benefit our underserved communities. What a thoughtful and wonderful intervention,” Mr Nimoh Asante added.
To the management and staff of AirtelTigo, the Odikro of Kotokuom, Nana Kwaku Boah said, “AirtelTigo, we are touched, and are grateful. You continue to make mobile telephony simple for and accessible to us and now this school project.”
The Odikro promised to mobilize community members to pull down the old structure to make way for the construction of the new school.
Nana Kwaku Boah also pledged his total commitment to the efficient management and maintenance of the school block after completion.
Peter Marfo, the PTA Chairman of the school explained that the school has not undergone any major renovation after 70 years of construction; hence resulting in the gradual deterioration of the school building.
The school has a current population of about 263 pupils and the authorities envisage that enrolment will drastically increase after the construction of the new school by AirtelTigo.Latest Stories
