Police in the Garu, a town in the Upper East region rejected a ¢6,540 bribe and arrested the suspects who tried to compromise them in a motorbike theft case.
The Regional Command in a statement on Friday said the officers were investigating a case of missing motorbikes when the suspects offered them some money to drop the case.
“While investigation was ongoing, suspect Kofi Awuni offered the investigators ¢6,540 for the case of stealing and dishonestly receiving stolen items to be dropped. He was subsequently arrested and cautioned for attempting to bribe a public officer,” the statement said.
The cash money offered is being kept by the police “as an exhibit for evidential purposes,” the Regional Command said.
According to him, they used the intelligence gathered to arrest another suspect, Amu Yakubu, in connection with the stolen motorbikes on Tuesday.
“All three suspects Amadu Yakubu, Wudu Mohammed and Kofi Awuni are under investigations for stealing and bribing a public officer are being arraigned for court…” the statement said.
