The CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has denied claims linking any of his bodyguards to gold trading activities or the alleged disappearance of GH¢200 million belonging to the institution.
He said the claims circulating on social media were part of what he described as deliberate misinformation intended to damage his reputation and create the impression that GoldBod had lost money.
Mr Gyamfi explained that the individual identified as Dominic Bonsu, who has been alleged to be his bodyguard, is in fact the sole proprietor of Dominic Bonsu Ventures, a licensed Tier 2 gold-buying company.
He said GoldBod does not conduct direct financial transactions with Tier 2 buyers such as Dominic Bonsu Ventures, as its financial dealings are with licensed aggregators, with pre-finance advances secured by Advance Payment Guarantees.
Speaking on the matter, Mr Gyamfi said, “None of my bodyguards is involved in gold trading. None of my bodyguards has taken away any money from GoldBod.”
He added, “There is deliberate disinformation against me because they feel I am the reason they are in opposition.”
Mr Gyamfi said he had never known or met Dominic Bonsu and had never had a bodyguard by that name. He said the businessman had been arrested and remanded by the High Court following a complaint from his aggregator counterparty.
According to him, GoldBod has also initiated criminal proceedings against Mr Bonsu over alleged breaches of the GoldBod Act, 2025 (Act 1140), while suspending his company’s Tier 2 gold-buying licence for violating its licence conditions and operational guidelines.
Mr Gyamfi stressed that the court case arose from commercial dealings between a licensed aggregator and a licensed Tier 2 buyer and had no connection to any alleged GH¢200 million loss by GoldBod.
He also maintained that none of GoldBod’s licensed aggregators owed the institution any money.
