Mr Osei Assibey Antwi, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, has charged the Asante-Akim South District Assembly to incorporate the construction of a new police station at Juaso in its 2008 budget to facilitate effective policing in the district.
He said since security was key in all sectors of national endeavours, it was imperative to provide the police an enabling environment to motivate them to discharge their duties effectively.
The Deputy Regional Minister, who is also the acting District Chief Executive (DCE) for the District, was addressing the assembly’s first ordinary meeting at Juaso.
Mr Antwi’s call followed a recent familiarization tour he made selected institutions in the district where he discovered deplorable conditions of the police and their working environment.
“I am proposing to this august house to consider as a matter of priority the construction of a police station complex for Juaso. It is my conviction that when this proposal is debated and accepted, we shall include the project in our budget for implementation this year”.
He said the Juaso police had over the years worked assiduously to maintain peace and order in the district and urged the assembly to adequately resource them to enhance their performance.
Mr Antwi disclosed that preparations were far advanced for the construction of a new court to help improve justice delivery in the area.
According to him, the Town and Country Planning and Public Works Department had been directed to prepare the necessary site plans on the proposed project, adding that work would soon begin.
Mr Antwi commended the assembly members for their dedication towards development and urged them to co-operate with him pending the appointment of a substantive DCE.
