Mr Joseph Nyamaah, Vice Chairman of the Nkoranza District branch of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), has appealed to the District Assembly to create a station for cargo vehicles operating in the area to help ease congestion at the main Lorry Station.
Mr Nyamaah told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that during market days drivers found it difficult to operate at the Station, which was too small to contain both passenger and cargo trucks.
“The traders find it very difficult to move through vehicles and to go about their business activities, which they do at the risk of their lives”, he said.
Mr Nyamaah expressed concern about the practice by some of the cargo truck drivers to park their vehicles alongside the main streets in Nkoranza as that posed great danger to school children who crossed the streets to their schools.
He explained that the creation of the cargo truck station would enable the Assembly to conveniently collect taxes on goods including maize, yams and charcoal conveyed from Nkoranza.
Mr Nyamaah suggested to the Assembly to create the station at the Nkoranza old magazine area or the new market.
In another development women engaged in the sale of vegetables in the District have appealed to the Assembly to construct more stalls for them.
Madam Adwoa Anane, one of them, stated that the sharing of one table by three traders was not convenient for businesses activities and called for the immediate use of the newly constructed market to allow all traders to go about their activities without any hindrance.
