Some students of the University of Ghana Medical School have taken to the streets of Accra to create awareness on the deadly COVID-19.
The exercise has been necessitated by the alarming rate of global infections of the virus and the need to educate the grassroots on adherence to preventive guidelines as outlined by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Against this backdrop, the students toured the principal areas of the capital with various educational messages regarding the COVID-19 outbreak.

On March 18, 2020, the students were spotted along the streets leading from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to the Kwame Nkrumah Circles with placards conspicuously displaying messages such as ‘When was the last time you sanitised your cellphone’ and ‘observe your body for symptoms’, all in an effort to intensify public education against novel coronavirus pandemic.

While observing recommended non-contact protocols, they also engaged commuters by demystifying myths and erroneous perceptions regarding the outbreak through various local languages.

The Ghana Health Service on March 19, 2020, announced the confirmation of two more cases of COVID-19 in the country, raising the total to 11.
The two cases were recorded at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
However, the medical students say it is their hope that Ghana upholds the highest levels of precautionary measures while carrying the populace along through such campaigns as authorities race against time to end the threat of COVID-19 in Ghana.
