Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Ernest Henry Norgbey has petitioned the Electoral Commission to publish the provisional voters’ register on its website within the next seven days.
His request comes after he accused EC of ‘gross dishonesty’ for deliberately deleting to 21,000 names were omitted from voters’ register.
In a letter addressed to the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa on Thursday, Mr Norgbey noted that his request is in consonance with the Regulation 23 (1) (2) (3) of the Constitutional Instrument 91 as amended by the CI 126 of 2020.
According to him, although the CI clearly instructs the EC to post the provisional resister of the newly compiled roll on its website, the Commission is yet to meet that requirement.
“I noticed with deep regret that the Commission has not complied with this mandatory statutory requirement during the processes for the exhibition of the Voters Register in preparation for the 2020 elections.
“I hereby demand that you comply with Regulation 23(1) (2) (3) of C.I. 91 as amended by publishing or posting on the Commission’s website within the next seven days the provisional voters register that was compiled prior to the voter exhibition exercise that took place from Friday, September 18 to Sunday, September 27, 2020,” he stated.
The Ashaiman legislator then stated that, should the Commission fail to honour his request, he will adopt every legitimate method to compel the EC to comply with the statutory obligations.
