The Transport Minister-designate has disclosed that Covid-19 antigene testing company at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) approached the Ghana Airport Company Limited to provide the service prior to reopening in September 2020.
Kwaku Ofori Asiamah said Frontiers Healthcare Services subsequently pays $10 to the Airport Company from the $150 it charges each passenger.
The revelation on Tuesday comes on the back of threats by members of the Minority to request a formal parliamentary enquiry into the deal.
According to the Minister-designate, the proposal for the laboratory service was drafted by Frontiers Healthcare Services which was then authenticated
Mr Ofori Asiamah said to government's satisfaction, Frontiers Healthcare Services were provided with equipment to use at the laboratory centres.
"So according to Ghana Airport Company, they had the proposal from the frontier group saying that they had the capacity to undertake the offering of that laboratory services.
"Mr Chairman per the brief that I have received, they presented their documentation to them and then Ghana Airport Company wrote to follow the draft authority to authenticate or to satisfy the equipment that the people were supposed to use for the laboratory centres," Mr Asiamah said.
"Mr Chairman the Food and Drugs Authority around August per the briefing, wrote back to Ghana Airport Company, in fact satisfying that equipment are what they can use to perform that activity," he added.
However, Minority in Parliament says it will move a motion for a bi-partisan parliamentary inquiry into the award of a contract to Frontiers Healthcare Solution Services Limited for Covid-19 testing at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) by government.
