MP for Hemang Lower Denkyira, Bright-Wireko Brobby has cut sod for the construction of six-unit teachers transit quarters at Twifo Hemang, the District capital.
The transit quarters, the MP says, is to serve as temporary accommodation for teachers who are posted to the district while they look for permanent accommodation for their tenure as Senior High School teachers.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, the MP who is the Deputy Employment and Labour Relations Minister-Designate intimated that the issue of accommodation for teachers has been an albatross on the neck of the district, hence his resolve to get the project done.
“My constituency has two Senior High Schools and one of the challenges in the school is the acute accommodation problems for teachers. When they are posted to the constituency, it becomes a great difficulty to get accommodation,” he stated.
"My desire is to get decent accommodation for teachers that are posted to the district. We need to motivate teachers and support them in their line of duty. I have been visiting the two SHSs that are in my constituency.
“This six-unit self-contained quarters would help a great deal. Well, it is for teachers to settle in, get familiar with the communities they are posted to, so they could find proper and befitting accommodation for themselves,” he said.
He also expressed his happiness over his appointment as a deputy minister for the second time. He maintained he does not take it for granted and would help the president to deal with the labour issues in the country.
“I am grateful to the President and the people of Hemang Lower Denkyira. I share this glory with them. Had they not voted for me, I would have caught the eye of the president to nominate me,” he intimated
Bright Wereko-Brobby promised to work extra hard to ensure that every worker in Ghana works in an acceptable environment. “This is why the president in which wisdom has nominated me,” he added.
Headmistress for the Heman Senior Technical School, Rev. Dorcas Annam thanked the MP for the services he’s been rendering for the school. She stressed that the issue of accommodation is gradually affecting discipline in the school because the teachers do not stay on campus.
“All the teachers are coming from town, they are not staying here. Some come as far as Wawase. And this is affecting discipline,” she explained.
