A 10-member Regional Health Committee has been inaugurated with the task of resetting the health sector in the Savannah Region.
The ten-member regional health committee, led by traditional ruler Tolodompewura Abdallah Ahmed, was inaugurated with a mandate to work towards revitalising the health sector in the Savannah Region.
The committee, which was inaugurated by the Savannah Regional Minister, Salisu Be-Awuribe, is also expected to collaborate effectively with stakeholders to improve healthcare delivery and health services for residents in the region.

Members of the committee, drawn from diverse professional backgrounds, include Tolodompewura Abdallah Ahmed as Chairman; Dr John Ekow Otoo, Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service; and Mr Mustapha D. Adam, Regional Coordinating Director.
Other members are Mr Kipo Kara, a retired health professional; Kpansheguwara F.A. Adam Borewureche I; Kansawuriche Hajia Azara Bukari; Reverend Gilbert Kwesi Agbefu, representing the Christian community; and Sheikh Mohammed Karim, representing the Muslim community. Mr Domie Godswill will serve as Secretary.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Savannah Regional Minister Salisu Be-Awuribe reiterated the government’s reset agenda aimed at revitalising key sectors of development and urged committee members to prioritise listening and stakeholder engagement.
“We must open our eyes and ears to listen to concerns and draw the attention of actors in the health service so that we can improve healthcare and health service delivery in the region.
"If we identify opportunities anywhere, we should not hesitate to explore them so we can collectively improve the sector,” he said.
Mr Be-Awuribe explained that provisions in the Health Sector Act make it necessary for traditional authorities to be represented on the committee.

“Some of the challenges in the health sector can best be addressed if traditional authorities take a lead role in resolving them,” he said.
He added that when traditional authorities and political leaders work together on initiatives such as sanitation campaigns, residents are more likely to support and participate in such efforts.
“When residents see traditional authorities and politicians working together to champion the same cause, they will listen and follow suit,” the minister noted.
Chairman of the committee, Tolodompewura Abdallah Ahmed, expressed confidence in the capacity of members to deliver on their mandate.

“We will not disappoint the President but will work hard to justify the confidence reposed in us,” he assured.
A senior member of the Ghana Health Service, Alex Amankwa-Poku, administered the Oaths of Allegiance and Secrecy to the committee members.
The Regional Health Committee is the second of its kind since the creation of the Savannah Region in 2019.
