The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Awudome Senior High School (AWUSCO) has appealed to parents to complete a dining hall project it has initiated.
The project became imperative due to the burden on the current dining hall due to the introduction of the Free SHS policy, where students are compelled to dine in batches.
The AWUSCO PTA Secretary, Fancy Yasekre, appealed at the induction ceremony of parents of Form one students of the School in Tsito in the Ho West District of the Volta Region.
The PTA has contributed to the infrastructural development of the institution.
The Association, since its inception constructed about 100-bed capacity dormitory for the boys, a four-unit classroom block, two dormitory blocks for the girls, two semi-detached bedrooms staff bungalows among others.
Its current project which is the construction of a bigger dining hall facility for the school had stalled because there was no funding.
“We are pleading with you parents to pay the ¢200 levy towards the completion of the dining hall project.”
“Even if for nothing at all, let us roof it so it can be used by our children”, said Fancy Yasekre.
The National Chairperson of the PTA, Christian Akin Atsu, indicated that second-cycle schools across the country are bedevilled with challenges due to implementing the Free SHS policy.
He, therefore, implored PTA members to support and contribute towards projects initiated by the association to help resolve the challenges to provide conducive environments for academic activities.
“Our challenge is the free SHS, school heads and management have been complaining about the lack of furniture, infrastructure among others but the student populations keep increasing.
"We are pleading with you their parents to assist the schools in these difficult moments”, he said.
The AWUSCO PTA Chairperson, Felicity Ahafianyo, took the parents through their responsibilities as members of the Association and advised them to take interest in the education of their wards and provide them with the requisite learning materials.
