Ghana Water Limited (GWL) in the Volta Region has announced an emergency shutdown of the Kpeve Headworks to enable urgent repair works on its raw water infrastructure.
The shutdown is scheduled for Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 5:00 a.m., and is expected to affect water supply in several communities within the region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 20, the company said the decision was necessitated by a major fault on the raw water transmission line.
“The shutdown is required to fix a serious leakage on the raw water transmission line,” GWL stated, describing the situation as critical and in need of immediate attention.
As a result of the temporary suspension, water supply will be interrupted in Ho Township, Kpeve, Peki and other surrounding communities.
GWL explained that the disruption is unavoidable but essential to prevent further damage to the system and to ensure the long-term reliability of water delivery.
The water utility assured customers that production would restart as soon as repair works are completed.
“Water production will resume immediately after the repair works are completed,” the statement said, adding that engineers will work swiftly to restore supply.
Meanwhile, residents in the affected areas have been urged to make adequate preparations ahead of the shutdown.
GWL apologised for the inconvenience and appealed for public cooperation.
“We regret any inconvenience this may cause and appeal to our cherished customers for patience and understanding as we work to restore normal water supply,” the company added.
