The New Juaben Municipal Assembly hall was the centre of election violations as some Assembly members believed to be sympathetic to the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, openly showed their ballots in clear violation of secret balloting.
Prior to the confirmation of the nominee for the New Juaben South municipal assembly, there were allegations of monetary influence as each assembly member was promised GHC3,000 should they vote for the nominee.
This was after some members had threatened to vote against the nominee, Ike Apaw Gyasi.
At a point, the MP for the area, Michael Okyere Baafi reportedly facilitated reconciliation between aggrieved members and the nominee.
During the voting, assembly members affiliated with the NDC side opening showed their “Yes” votes in the full glare of everybody present.
The act which was a clear electoral fraud, however, went without condemnation from the EC officials and the police officers.
Mr. Isaac Appaw Gyasi polled 46 out of 47 votes representing 98%.

The election was supervised by the Electoral Commission led by the Regional Director Madam Faith Amedzake.
Ike Appaw Gyasi who had the nod to serve a second term assured that he is going to spearhead massive development in the Municipality.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong called for unity and support for the MCE to enable him to execute his mandate.
Present at the confirmation was the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry Michael Kofi Baafi, Chief Director of Regional Coordinating Council, Mr. Samuel Donkor, Traditional Authorities, some regional and constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party, and a former Eastern Regional Chairman of the opposition NDC, Mr. Tawiah Boateng.
So far, nominees for Birim South Okere District, Akyemansa, and New Juaben South have been confirmed while that of Achiase District has been rejected.
