Government will by the end of this year construct 112 computer laboratories for some deprived schools in five of the newly created regions.
This is among prizes for students from these regions that are participating in the National Girls in ICT Day celebration which is being organised by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation and its agencies.
Speaking to Journalists after the Mentorship programme held in the Bono region for the 1,000 girls in ICT, Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, said government will go the extra mile to provide ICT education to younger ones in the deprived schools to enable them catch up with the new economy.
“We are determine to expand access to every part of the country through the provision of rural telephony sites and establishment of computer science laboratories especially in deprived Junior and senior high schools.”
“We are awarding the best twenty students from each region with ICT Laboratories and when you look at the numbers, I can tell you that by the end of this year’s programme, we will have about 112 computer labs in about five of the newly created regions to equip their skills in ICT education”, she pointed out.
“Government will also embark on other e-learning initiatives through the Ministry of Education and my ministry, so we can achieve the digital for inclusion drive” she told Journalists.
The new regions benefiting from the laboratories include the Oti, Bono, Bono East, Savanah and Ahafo regions.
The girls in ICT programme in the Bono region is being climaxed with awards to some deserving students and teachers who excelled during the competition sessions.
